Part of our job as estate planning lawyers is helping our clients tackle challenging questions about what they want for their families after they’re gone. Since we’ve been doing this for over 35 years, we have experience building the right planning instruments for every kind of situation. Whatever your goals, we’re can ensure it happens.
Here are just two of the planning tools you might consider:
- Revocable Living Trusts & Wills: A revocable living trust offers a flexible, changeable document that governs how you want your assets handled during your life while avoiding estate taxes. The revocable living trust is also a private document. A will, despite being public, offers you the ability to appoint an estate administrator after your death; however, a will is subject to probate. There are tradeoffs to both we can walk you through.
- Estate and Gift Tax Planning: One strategy we’ve utilized for our clients is using annual gift tax exclusions ($18,000 per person in 2024) and the lifetime gift and estate tax exemption (set at $13.61M per individual for 2024) to minimize estate tax liability. Using gift tax exemptions in estate planning not only reduces the total taxable assets in your estate, but it also allows you pass on major assets without incurring additional taxes on them. If you want to reduce your tax liability, we can discuss your options under estate and gift tax laws.
